India’s GDP growth: 0.2% from 1.2 trillion rupees, economists say


India’s economy is growing at a healthy 0.5% from the 1.3 trillion rupee annualised growth rate of 2016, data released by the Reserve Bank of India on Wednesday showed.

Data showed growth in the first quarter stood at 1.02 trillion ru, an increase of 0.7% over the same period last year.

Data from the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) showed the number of people in the country increased by 723,000 to 1.21 billion in the April-September quarter of 2016.

India is one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.

Its growth of 5.3% in the second quarter of this year was the fastest in the world.
