My Review of the book Smart Money Woman by Arese Ugwu – Chapter 1 & 2

In the book, Smart Money Woman is Zuri, a lady who was taking charge of her life and not outsourcing to a man. However she had lots of bills to pay.

She knew how important it is to subscribe to the best but after taking stock of her expenses, she realized she was living above her means. ๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜”

She was living the life of a Single, Uber-successful African Women.

Q1: Do you take stock of your expenses?

After reevaluating her spending she told herself the truth, she had to cut down on her spending.

Well, Zuri’s friend Tami thinks a man could bail her out of her mess and support her.

Tami thinks that, dating a Sugar big boy will solve Zuri’s money problems.

Do you wonder how a conversation about money suddenly becomes a conversation about men together?

Well, Zuri took time to think of her past experiences and she didn’t find it interesting depending on a man to pay her bills.

She understands what she wants from a man. Not just want a guy who can pay her bills or a good looking guy or someone that is not true to himself (a liar), she wants a man who is ambitious, hard working, and someone she could trust.

We need to get to the point where when a woman talks about her challenges, the solution should not be getting a man to look after her.

A man is not the answer to a woman’s problems.

Women should grow themselves and not let a man be their solution.

Once Zuri established that a man wasn’t the answer to her money problems, she knew she needed to find a way out.

Zuri thought to herself, its either she makes much more money or cut back on spending but first she needed to get out of her current situation.

The question now is HOW?

Lessons: We have to consciously get financial literacy. We are not taught this is School, the system was not designed to make you rich.

Work towards building assets, think about what would have if you lose your primary source of income.

Question to ponder on: If you lose your primary source of income today, would you be able to maintain the lifestyle you have?

Something to think about.

Make money in your productive years, you will not always have the strength to do that.

Develop a wealthy mindset: Understand the concept that how you spend, invest and mange N10 is how you will spend, invest anf manage 10M.

Building wealth is more about how much you keep.

Wealthy people understand the relationship between how we earn and how we spend and then know where the balance.

Active income –> Money you make from your job or business

Passive Income–> Money you make while you are sleeping.

Zuri was feeling all weighed down going through options to sort out her bills.

Everything she had to face these days didn’t help matters. At first she was doing well earlier in her job, over time she seem withdrawn and uninterested in her self development and came up with plenty excuses.

Her boss Mr Tunde didn’t mince words, after a bad presentation she did at the office.

He pointed out how she was lagging behind.

Her boss who has been a propeller in her career and she knew it.

Well, without giving her an option, he had nominated her to attend WIMBIZ.

She got home in the evening to Mr Okeke who wanted the see her bay because she owed.

He was raining insults but she had to confront him, take control of the situation and come up with a plan.

She reached out to her brothers and mum for financial assistant. I’m sure if they had they would have givbe her.

But I mean….do you know anyone who has money that they are not using?

Zuri, Her being broke didnt come from not having a job or being a being a low income earner, it came from being bad with being bad with money.

She works hard but

๐Ÿ“Œ no assets to show.
๐Ÿ“Œmeasley amount in the bank
๐Ÿ“ŒNo land
๐Ÿ“ŒNo stocks

Nothing to fall back on when things went bad. So sad.

The worry for money should not be for survival, lifestyle upgrade because when the money is lost, it will lead to one depending on others.

How we behave with money is deeply rooted in how we think and about money.

Instead of allowing gear to cripple us , We can confront our gears and conquer them.

By accepting that we have challenges We begin to see how we can face them.

Successful people face their fears.
